Why Teams to Help Fit Thinking?
Teams create BIAs - which can be a good tool
Thinking of yourself as on a team, changes your feelings towards enemies, which will change your actions. A Red Sox fan would never wear a Yankee jersey.
In school, I have been, and remain, a Warrior, Crusader, Bear, Blue Devil, and Gator. Our teams are our tribes. Teams unify us in shared goals.
Teams have opponents. My biggest school rivals, all bad people from schools of questionable academic merit, were Gators, Raiders, Cadets, Tar Heels, and Bull Dogs. Schools have faux battles - football, rugby, basketball and other sports - with their rivals.
Sports, politics, news, celebrities, and social media keep us divided and distracted from what is most important to our own future - our true team of family and friends. What is important to your future:
Oprah’s weight or yours?
Gronk’s 40 speed at the combine or your 5K time now?
The agenda of who selects a supreme court justice or the agenda of who selects your food at the grocery store?
The Team Descartes Thinkers gives me, and hopefully you, a team that seeks to keep us being fit providers and avoid being ill and dependent. We look at our world in a new way. If we are for American Men being fit, who is against us? What people and organizations threaten our fitness?
Our enemies are legion - Big Soda, Big Ag, Addictive Hooks, the distraction economy, and their millions of minions and enablers. We are good and they are bad might be seen as an over-simplification - so fucking what?
If being bias towards fitness helps good people make great choices for their future, I am in favor of that kind of bias. Just as Blue Devils wear true blue and would never wear UNC baby-vomit blue, Thinkers would never wear a Coca-Cola T-shirt.
